Reinsurance Solutions opens Zambian office, appoints Bervin Momba MD

Reinsurance Solutions has extended its Southern African footprint and opened an office in Lusaka, Zambia, with Bervin Momba at the helm as MD.

While the new office is still awaiting its license, Shashi Ramdany, Reinsurance Solutions CEO, says Momba will hit the ground running when the branch gets the greenlight.

"Bervin will be involved in the set up and running of the new office, as well as the day-to-day broking of existing business and driving new business opportunities in Zambia. This is a critical move as we extend our presence across the region," explains Ramdany.

Momba is confident he and the new team will successfully grow the Zambian business, saying his previous positions have prepared him well for his new role.

"I have held different management positions at both branch and head office directing and controlling successful operations and meeting targets. My experience has enabled me to understand the market dynamics in dealing with various insurance consumers at retail and corporate level through effective risk collaboration with local and international brokers, insurers and reinsurers. I'm looking forward to taking on this next challenge in my career, and cementing Reinsurance Solutions' footprint in the region even further," he says.

Momba is a seasoned chartered insurance practitioner with more than 10 years' industry experience in all major aspects of underwriting management, claims management, business development, reinsurance and specialised risks assessments.

He previously held positions at Diamond General Insurance Limited as a branch manager and head of the business strategy unit, and later at SWAN General Insurance Limited as the manager overseeing reinsurance and specialised risks, followed by a three-year stint as senior operations manager.

Momba holds a National Insurance Diploma from Zambia Insurance Business College Trust (2009); a Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) from Cavendish University Zambia (2012); a Diploma Insurance (Dip CII) from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), United Kingdom (2013); Advanced Diploma Insurance (ACII) from the CII, UK (2014); and an MBA Management Strategy (MBAMST) from the University of Zambia (2021).

He is a Chartered Insurance Risk Manager (ACII) and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Zambia (FIIZA).
